David and Jonathan became family because they shared a friendship beyond words. David was a shepherd and Jonathan a king's son. The filthy rags of a shepherd boy became the clothes of a king's son and a sparkling robe was adorned by a shepherd boy. Much like Jesus came to earth with a humble ordinary beginning and left His royal heavenly kingdom to die on a cross and took on our filthy rags of sin to give us the righteous robe of adoption into God's Family.
